I've surfed them twice in the last week, not to earn credits, but to see what else is cool to add to my sites. Sadly disappointed, there are a lot of MLM, Get Rich Schemes and then more traffic sites. I havent surfed anything outstanding, or much less worth a second look.
I am not a pro publisher. However, I am a trained marketer. There is a difference there. I know how to create customer awareness. I know how to reach my target audience. And how to keep them in.
The first thing I learned about building a website is readability, from John Chow. If you have a content site, you need people to be able to read your content. Watch your colors. Watch your spacing. And definitly watch your graphics. From then on, I read stuff here and there.
There are so many, many tacky scripts available out there. There are no other words to describe them. Just tacky. Flashing scripts. Flying Words. Frame closes down into a box. Very big letters to get your attention. Letters change to 50px at mouseover. Somewhere, sometime, I read that never to use these, unless you have a gun pointed on your head. They make your sight look very amateurish and well, not professional.
I am by no means implying that I do everything right because it is still a learning process for me. However, in order to realize the potential of the net, you have to create a niche for yourself. And hoping that your consumers will see beyond the tackiness of your site is looking for a miracle.
